Interview: Inland eFoils, South Carolina

2021-08-17

Interview with Inland eFoils, an eFoil demo and eFoil rental partner for Lift Foils in South Carolina.

Tell us a little bit about you and the team!

Right now the team is me and my wife, Katelyn. We are based at Lake Jocassee and Lake Keowee in Upstate SC. We have made a lot of new friends during our first full season and are currently in the process of adding to the Inland eFoils crew.

How did you discover Lift Foils?

I saw a video on Instagram a couple years ago and was immediately fascinated by the idea of flying around our local lakes on these things.

What’s your favorite eFoil size or wing configuration and why?

The LIFT3 4’2″ is on my wishlist but my current go-to is a LIFT2 5’0″ with the 170 HA wing and 48 tail. The 170 HA is floaty and responsive, allowing me to ride slowly with first-time students but also performs well at speed.

What excites you about eFoiling?

Katelyn and I love deep powder snowboarding, but in the Southeast those conditions are hard to come by. With eFoils we can put in at one of our pristine mountain lakes with zero hassle and fly over the water just like we used to fly down the back bowls in Utah.

Some of our favorite places are wilderness areas accessible only by water. eFoils enable us to explore without the environmental impact of a jet ski or boat. Being able to share that freedom with new riders has proven to be one of the most rewarding aspects of being a Lift Affiliate.

What regions do you work out of, and what does your company offer demos, lessons, etc?

We serve all of inland South Carolina offering single demo lessons, multi-family dock visits and everything in between. We teach a lot of first-time riders but also offer advanced coaching and group sessions.

Tell us about one of your most interesting water or adventure experiences, whether foil related or not!

Two of my favorite adventure experiences were exploring the white desert in Egypt and scuba diving the Phi Phi islands in Thailand, but I’d still rather be on an eFoil.

What are some your go-to eFoiling spots?

Wright Creek Falls and the Thompson River area on Lake Jocassee.

Any tips for watersports enthusiasts visiting?

Devils Fork State Park at Lake Jocassee has limited access and capacity. Plan ahead to reserve the best campsites and lodging.
