Where Does Ocean Plastic Come From?
It starts on land. Every day, 48.5 million lbs (22 million kg) of plastic - equivalent to 15 Olympic-sized pools - threatens to enter our oceans from coastal regions worldwide. That's why Ocean CO leads a global ocean-bound plastic cleanup effort, intercepting this waste before it reaches our seas. Together, we're tackling ocean plastic pollution at its source.
Ocean-bound Plastic Cleanup
Since 2019, Ocean CO has started a revolution in ocean-bound plastic cleanup, collecting an astounding 2,677,613,670 lbs (1,214,555,734 kg) of plastic.
If spread in a thin layer, this recovered plastic would cover 46.89 sq miles (121.46 km²) of ocean surface. That's an area larger than the entire city of Paris, or about 22,700 football fields – now imagine that expanse of ocean, free from floating plastic debris.
They've achieved this through three focus points:
